Yes on L for Fremont Schools

About Measure L

Unfortunately on March 3, 2020 Measure L did
not pass. A majority of Fremont voters supported it, but a parcel tax requires 2/3rd of votes to pass. We would like to thank the volunteers who worked so hard and the 21,803 voters for their support. Thank you!

Measure L is a measure to maintain quality education in Fremont schools. It will be on the local ballot on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Excellent Local Schools
Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) is committed to maintaining quality education for our students. We strive to give all students the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college and the competitive job market. Our strong local schools protect our quality of life here in Fremont and our property values.

Current Challenges in FUSD
While our students are high-achieving, FUSD is the lowest state funded school district in Alameda County. FUSD cut nearly $16 million from its 2019-20 budget to maintain a balanced budget. Without new funding the District may be forced to make additional cuts to teaching and staff positions, academic programs and other services supporting local students.

Measure L: Local Funding for Local Schools

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously to place Measure L, a $296 local education parcel tax measure that will be in place for 9 years, raising $18.3 million each year, on the March 3, 2020 ballot. If approved by 66.7% of voters, Measure L would provide stable revenue for our schools and can be used to restore cuts and:

  • Attract and retain highly qualified teachers
  • Enhance science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) opportunities for students
  • Protect the quality of instruction in math, science, reading and writing programs
  • Restore smaller class sizes
Local Control and Independent Oversight

  • Every penny from Measure L would benefit Fremont schools and cannot be taken away by the State
  • An independent citizen oversight committee, annual audits and reports to the community ensure Measure L funds are used as promised
  • Senior citizens are eligible for an exemption from the cost of the measure
  • Measure L cannot be renewed without voter approval

Please join parents, teachers, seniors, local business and elected leaders in voting Yes on L to support our Fremont schools and students!
